I have found numerous bugs in using the SmoothStepper with Mach3. Here is one that I discovered while making a video. There are issues with the FIFO buffer between Mach3 and the SmoothStepper. Here I pressed the "Hold" button and before the motion stopped I pressed "Start". It turns out you shouldn't do this! I can't even explain what happened because there where no upcoming Z axis moves in the near future. Why did the Z axis move?

  • I laughed out loud uncontrollably at your reaction! I said almost the exact same words when, after 19 hours of machining a billet supercharger rotor, the last three minutes of the program destroyed it as I stood and watched helplessly. And this was using $20,000 software on a $150,000 VMC!! #@#$%*%^

    Gotta love technology!

  • Dude that sucks! and to be sure that never happens again I added some code in Mach3 that looks to see if the SS is still .. so you can press it all day long and that will not happen.

Also you sound like me :)

  • the reaction made me laugh.

  • Was the Z axis even supposed to be moving at that time?
