@d7urban, besides U.S. Census Bureau data, (census dot gov), I pulled a lot of information from the American Religion Identification Survey 2001 (first link if you Google "aris 2001"). There's also a reference to a Pew Forum study done last year; Google "pew african americans religious" and check out the first couple of links.
