Nightime cab ride in WP F7 918 - Niles Canyon

Cab ride in former Western Pacific F7 918-D on 12/2/07. 918 was used to pull the annual Niles Canyon Railway (PLA) Train of Lights on the eastbound run from Niles to Sunol, Ca. The video was shot as the sun was going down, so it does get pretty dark. The best part of this video is the sound, of course.

918 engine crew was engineer Jon Vlasak (WP alumni and was part of the 918 restoration crew) and brakeman Curt Hoppins.

what kind of horn is on the WP F7 918? I have heard that kind of horn on an emd G22C Export metre gauage loco in Brazil beautiful horn I must say

Those sharing comments about the horn,the sound of the cylinders,all of it,also takes me back .Always lived close enough to Santa Fe rail action in Kansas,mainly around Emporia.Looking out the windows of Lowther Jr High at all the trains coming in .1966 _ 1969.Still feel those days in my soul.
