@wotan3000 John Eliot Gardiner generally does music of the early Classical period at around a=430, so I'm sure this is how it sounded in performance and the pitch the orchestra tuned to for the entire opera. It's not quite a half step down from normal, however, as that would be a=415, where Gardiner usually does his Bach and most of his other Baroque music.

The pitch is at a 430 on this recording it seems. It is basically a half step down from normal. I don't know if that is on purpose for the whole production, a decision by Terfel for the aria or a problem with the transfer.
Anyone know for certain?

I think Terfel is wonderful in this particular role though I would say he is equally good as "Don Givoanni"
