Aria sung by Bryn Terfel(Figaro):

Non piu andrai farfallone amoroso
Notte e giorno dintorno girando;
Della belle turbando il riposo
Narcisetto, Adoncino damor.

Non piu avrai questi bei pennacchini,
Quel cappello leggero e galante,
Quella chioma quellaria brillante,
Quel vermiglio donnesco color,

Tra guerrieri poffar Bacco!
Gran mustacchi, stretto sacco.
Schioppo in spalla, sciabla al fianco,
Collo dritto, muso franco,
Un gran casco, o un gran turbante,
Molto onor, poco contante!
Ed invece del fandango
Una Marcia per il fango
Per montangne, per valloni
Con le nevi e i sollioni
Al concerto di tromboni
Di bombarde di cannoni
Che le palle in tutti i tuoni
Allorecchio fan fischiar.

Cherubino alla vittoria;
Alla gloria militar

  • I think Terfel is wonderful in this particular role though I would say he is equally good as "Don Givoanni"

  • @wotan3000 John Eliot Gardiner generally does music of the early Classical period at around a=430, so I'm sure this is how it sounded in performance and the pitch the orchestra tuned to for the entire opera. It's not quite a half step down from normal, however, as that would be a=415, where Gardiner usually does his Bach and most of his other Baroque music.

  • The pitch is at a 430 on this recording it seems. It is basically a half step down from normal. I don't know if that is on purpose for the whole production, a decision by Terfel for the aria or a problem with the transfer.

    Anyone know for certain?
