A few weeks ago, I noticed a water leak in my 1999 Audi A6 Avant. As I drove uphill, water would come rushing through a vent near the passenger side floor.

This video is a step by step tutorial for fixing this problem without paying a dealer $150+ in labor costs.

  • Hi thanks for this. I had this problem but sorted it this morning following your tip. However I was wary of taking the battery out so tried clearing the blockage with an air hose and running it under the battery. It worked. followed this up by pouring about a gallon of water just to make sure it was running clear. I had tried with a long welding rod but no joy, the air pressure clearded it. However would not have tried it had i not seen your video. so thanks best wishes from Glasgow.

  • @MrIseo - Glad the video helped. Enjoy life in Glasgow.

  • This vid is great. Thanks so much. A note: Sometimes you DON'T need to remove the battey and battery tray (which is a pain). To avoid this, follow these steps: 1) take a coat hanger, undo it so it's a straight wire, bend a 3/4" right angle into one end, 2) open hood, remove battery compartment cover, 3) fish coat hanger bend end UNDER battery from passenger side below rear-most edge of battery about 8 inches, 4) slosh coat hander in-out. 90% of time you will soon hear water draining out of car!

  • @sbove - This is a quick way to solve the problem. Glad the video was helpful!

  • This is awesome - i was just about to go to the dealer to get my drains cleaned up. In case you didn`t know, just in front of the pasanger seat you have the transmission control module. It can easily be flooded because of this problem. My TCM got wasted and The dealer was asking $1500 just for the module. I found it on ebay for $150 + shipping. I did the job myself.

    Thanks for another $200 save

  • @xplosive98 - Gotta love those dealer charges...glad the video helped. Sorry about the TCM.

  • You forgot for another plug its locate on rignt hand under brake vacuum!

  • Another note on the coat hanger method from previous post: You should CLEAN both gutters under the hood hinges with a strong blast of water. Then blast out the bottom of the battery tray too (from each side taking care not to wet key components). If the drain hole plugs again, repeat coat hanger trick (there is no TUBE below the drain-hole, just a nipple, so the bend in the coat hanger can ream out whatever stuff plugs it up). This has worked several times for me on my A6 AllRoad.

  • @inkbro2 - Glad it helped. Thanks for the positive feedback.

  • thank you very much you saved the day ( no longer have a paddling pool in passenger seat foot well)
