Reggaeton Baptism - Palmas - Soldado
If you have this song's lyric, please contact me.
Born in the barrios of Panama and Puerto Rico in the early 90's, Reggaeton is now the fastest growing genre of music in the Americas. With over 15 years of upward growth in the entertainment industry and the Latin music scene, one cannot help but recognize this explosive genre. Just spend a day in cities like Miami, New York or Los Angeles and you'll realize there's no turning back--Reggaeton has taken over radio, TV, clubs, and the streets. Now, courtesy of Lion of Zion Ent.-- Reggaeton is in the church.
Initially called "underground", Reggaeton (pronounced "ray-gay-tone") is a gritty hybrid of hip-hop and dancehall reggae set to primarily Spanish lyrics. This infectious style initially shot up mainstream radio charts in the USA with mega-hits like "Oye Mi Canto", "Lo que Paso Paso" and the super-hit "Gasolina" (MTV/BET). In the year 2005 alone, over 20 secular radio stations switched to a Spanish a Reggaeton format and MTV2 added a "Rhythm and Reggaeton" program to their lineup. Radio giant Clear Channel has also jumped on the bandwagon and recently flipped 5 of their English stations to a Reggaeton format. Overall, Spanish language music sales gained nearly 30% in the 1st part of 2005--RIAA credits this to Reggaeton's insurgence. Beyond this, Reggaeton is also infiltrating the genre of reggae--on any given week, 10 of the 15 top selling albums on the Billboard 'Reggae' charts are now Reggaeton releases! All of this sets the stage perfectly for Lion of Zion's most ambitious compilation to date...
The 'fuego' is red hot in this sizzling release and you'd swear these gospel artists are better than their secular counterparts. Perhaps that's because some of the Christian artists found on this disc like Funky and Rey Pirin used to be heavy hitters in the secular industry. But hearing songs like "Mi Testimonio" leave you no doubt where they stand now. The various performers on "Reggaeton Baptism" command the listener to draw near to the Lord over infectious bangara and Latin beats. If you like dancehall reggae or listen to Reggaeton artists such as Daddy Yankee, Ivy Queen, Tego Calderon, Don Omar, Zion y Lennox, El General or Voltio, then you will love "Reggaeton Baptism"!
One of the greatest weaknesses in most secular Reggaeton compilations is that all the songs use the same repetitive beat created by the same samples over and over again. This is not the case with "Reggaeton Baptism". Drawing from almost a dozen various producers, this album represents the whole spectrum of Reggaeton and guides the listener to the future of this musical style--diversity. "Diversity is key," says producer Mark Mohr, "In order for this genre to grow we have to stop using the same samples over and over again and break out of the 95bpm mold that Reggaeton has been stuck in for so long. On this album I have included songs that at their core are still Reggaeton while containing elements of reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, classical, funk and even salsa--giving the album and genre a broader appeal."
Reggaeton has been described as dancehall reggae (or slow soca) adorned with Spanish rap. However, this album is not just for Latinos. This style has proven contagious for both Latinos and non-Latinos alike. There is also enough English and Spanglish on "Reggaeton Baptism" to appease any gringo. And above all, good music transcends all cultural barriers.
"We desire to reach mainstream Reggaeton, hip-hop and dancehall reggae fans with a unique presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a language and musical style they understand," says Mark Mohr, President of Lion of Zion and producer of "Reggaeton Baptism". "Given this, a complete written gospel presentation in Spanish is included in the CD booklet."
On Reggaeton Baptism, the artists demonstrate their ceaseless passion for the Lord over addictive cuts such as "Bien Safao / Magnetic" by Ivan y Ab, "Bedeng Bedeng Wiyo" by Christafari, & "Nada Mas" by Joel Upperground,. The biggest hits by the top Christian artists and the hottest new genre slam together on one album creating music that truly baptizes Reggaeton for Jesus Christ!
