Might want to point out that VOIP (used by XBox live, skpe etc) was developed by radio amateurs.

Do we need to pick? I love xbox. If we're talking emergency, I'd have to say radio. If we're talking normal day, I'm going to have to go with the xbox.

I laugh when people think there cells will work in a catastrophic storm or quake.They don't understand the infrastructure needed for cell phones to operate,just let them believe that little cell is puttin'out some watts right to the phone on the receiving end,Sure...understanding radio transmission is cool,Not X-box

I like the people that say cell phones... I'm not a ham or anything just a bit of interest in all electronics. There's two major flaws in the cell phone fall back.

1) The tower is likely going to be down in an emergency such as a flood or storm.

2) If the tower is "operationally" functioning during the emergency they are not designed nor capable of handling the amount of traffic they would receive. Meaning your calls out would either go immediately busy or be dropped.

I was the "nerd" always having a radio on my side hell I would even have two sometimes for Fire and ham but when we had the hurricanes here in Fl I wonder who got to talk to people and find out information before anyone because they were involved with ARES/RACES/SATERN/ through the local EOC. hmm Me. I was 1st licensed at 16 I'm now a week away from my 22nd birthday. i enjoy the occasional video game but I would rather spend my money on useful things. Thank you
