'S é'n trua nach mise, nach mise
'S é'n trua nach mise bean Pháidín
'S é'n trua nach mise, nach mise
'S an bhean atá aige bheith caillte

Rachainn go Gallaí' go Gallaí'
Is rachainn go Gallaí' le Pháidín
Rachainn go Gallaí' go Gallaí'
Is thiocfainn abhaile sa mbád leis

Curfá

Rachainn go haonach an Chlocháin
Is siar go Béal Á' na Báighe
Bhreathnóinn isteach tríd an bhfuinneog
A' súil is go bhfeicfinn bean Pháidín

Curfá

Go mbristear do chosa, do chosa
Go mbristear do chosa 'bean Pháidín
Go mbristear do chosa, do chosa
Go mbristear do chosa 's do chnámha

  • @MaireCeann TRANSLATION:

    It's a pity, It's a pity I'm not paddy's wife,

It's a pity, It's a pity his wife is not dead.

I would go to Galway, I would go to Galway with paddy

I would go back on the boat with paddy, back on the boat with paddy

I would look in the window only to see paddy's wife.

I wish her bones to be broken, to be broken

SOURCE:Have to know it for my junior cert

    Hope that helps :)

  • @carlMOLINA I wish I had an Irish class back at school.

  • beautiful song and animation, thanks for uploading :]

  • @PiixiiHomicide so basically the Gaeilge version of "hey hey, you you, I don't like your girlfriend"

  • @TaMeGoHiontach not really. 'mh' & 'bh' make 'v' sounds or if before 'a', 'o', or 'u' more of a 'wah' kinda sound. Thats pretty much the main difference in the reading side of it

  • @EoR610 well i dont know any of those languages either lol just a wee bit of spanish, does it take long until you're able to read it aloud?

  • @TaMeGoHiontach its actually pretty easy it's just taught terribly. There are only 11 irregular verbs in the whole language! The only languages it would be most like are Manx & Scots Gaelic and less so Welsh, Cornish & Breton. It has the same sorta thing as Spanish and Hebrew and some other languages where it uses prepositional pronouns so "he's on" is "air" or "she's on" is "uirthi". Basically instead of two different words it's one

  • @Emily2731990 wish i had the time for it, maybe after college!

  • @TaMeGoHiontach Irish is a pretty difficult language, you either have to have spoken it since the very beginning or you must be very passionate of the language. I don't think you can compare its difficulty to another language, Irish is simply from a completely different family. Grammer is not as much of a pain as French, but you'll need more than a few years to achieve fluency. Watching TG4 (irish tv) and often practicing with a native speaker will help you out greatly.

  • is irish a hard language to learn? and is it comparable to any other languages?

  • this is a beautiful song

  • @balak1 noroc! :D
