The stone is real because it was created by the egyptian and greek alchemist
but you need to sacrifice humans or a 10,000 souls to complete a philisopher stone

The Great Work has always been of a mental and spiritual nature, the arcana experiments were simply to apply the credo, as above, so below, one could be understood through the other. Imagery is there to be read by the un-enlightened as proto-chemistry operations, to guard the secrets from those considered unworthy, and by the enlightened, as an advanced spiritual discipline.
