Cui Jian is known as the godfather of Chinese rock music whose song Nothing to My Name became the unofficial anthem of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.
The 47-year-old rock singer says he is backing the Olympics but will remain true to the spirit of rock-and-roll.
He tells Al Jazeera that making trouble is the job of a rock-and-roll star.
I love this man.

@Chomskyan
I said he's mature not because he's cooperative, but he understands china's problem better. And based on this better understanding, he happens to agree with the policies of the autority more. So co-opt is a result of being mature, not how you define mature.

@forstorage I am pointing out that you seem to have this perception.
Chomskyan 1 year ago
@Chomskyan why do you have the perception that "rebel=imature, co-opt=mature"? You do not understand what I was saying in the last post. if you are over 30 yo, I would like to discuss with you more. Sorry.

@forstorage if you want to equate co-opting to maturing, then yeah ok. You are free to do that I guess.

he did a great show the day before the closing ceremonies to a mixed local and foreign crowd near ladies street in beijing. each ticket were sold at a fixed premium of 500 yuan general admission, yet the place was absolutely packed! olympic souvenirs were also way expensive.
