This is a modern reproduction of an 18th Century Box Tapeloom that we make for the modern day Fiberholic's. The style is Traditional but as seen screws are visible which allows us to make this more affordable. We can make a Historically Correct one if someone is interested. Tapes, Ribbons, Unkle's or whichever you would like to call them was very common in Early Days. They served the purpose of zippers, velcro and the scarce buttons. Uses were many ie. belts, suspenders, trim for Ladies clothing, apron ties, corset lace, shoestrings, crisscrossed across baby cradles for safety, garters or even to just tie a bag. Straps were usually narrow and long. When a strap was needed a person went to the basket of tapes, cut off the length they needed and went on about there business. Tape weaving has become pretty much a lost art or craft.
I am not so good on video so please bare with me through my explanations and blunders. Hope you enjoy the video and music.
