Richard Shireby plays the 1877 Conacher tracker pipe organ in the workshop of Ireland-Shireby church organ builders as the organ nears the completion of it's restoration.
This special hymn was sung at patronal fesivals each year when I was, at 15, deputy organist at St. Michael & All Angels Church, Northfield, Rotherham (UK). The inner city church built C1900 was demolished in 1978.
I was told that this hymn was unique to this particulat church & I certainly can't find it in any hymn book. However, a recent search on the internet showed the full set of words and a new tune; but what was the old tune? was it this one...or is it really unique. Rumour had it that it was composed by Elgar.
Anyone with any answers, please enlighten me!
I appreciate this could be played a little better. unfortunately it's a photocopy of a photocopy of a hand written manuscript & I have to admit having difficulty reading some of it. I would have to write it out myself if I needed to play it somewhere!
