Two friends and I took a three day trip to see BNSF's Hi-Line. The Hi-Line is Great Northern's former main line across northern Montana through Havre, Shelby, Marias Pass, and Whitefish. The Hi-Line joins Montana Rail Link at Sandpoint Junction, Idaho to form "The Funnel." The line sees many Z-trains, grain trains, and Amtrak's Empire Builder. This is the first of a multiple part series of videos. Enjoy!

Video taken on June 19 and 20 on a westward journey across the Hi-Line.

  • Thanks for keeping the camera still so we can see the whole train passing. Just a personal fad but I like to hear the changing sounds when the locomotive fades into the distance, leaving the waggon sounds alone. Could you one day do this next to a loose rail joint so we can hear a good ryhthmic thumpity-thump ?

    Regards

  • @stevehalbers I can sure try, although its hard to find a spot that has jointed rail around here anymore. Most of it has been replaced by continuous welded rail. Thanks for the comment. Be sure to check out my other channel mtrailfanproductions.
