This is yet another video about my survival techniques for being an atheist in Catholic school.

Questions:
1) How did you get through religious services? (If you ever had to go, of course)
2) What would you do now to make it bearable if you had to go to a religious service again?

  • If you get forced to attend church with someone why not bring along a copy of "God Is Not Great" or "The God Delusion" to read during the service. You probably won't be invited back again.

If that doesn't work try singing from the book during the hymns.

  • @deedubya286 One of my friends got ordained last year and I went to the ordination in his church. I was reading God is Not Great at the time and didn't even think about it until I had gotten at least a dozen dirty looks from people while I was reading and waiting for the service to start. Apparently that is not acceptable reading material in the pews of a church, according to some. :)

  • Some Catholic parents care more whether you go to church than what you believe. They think it's your right not to believe---but not going to church? ---that's a mortal sin!

  • Watching you pick away at your nail polish would be far more interesting than the sermon.

  • @BornWithoutReligion

    I like your style :P.

    Subbed btw.

  • Hehe, yes, its all about the singing :P

I know more songs by memory than the people in the choir.

  • I Brought a pencil and note cards and drew on them. Then I left them in the bibles and hymn books for people to find the following weeks. I was a strange little child so sometimes just for fun Iwould take a collection envelope and turn it so the writing was up side down draw stars all over it turn it back right side up and leave it partly sticking out of the row of bibles. Eventually I would talk my friends into coming with me to curch and we would pass notes the whole time.

  • @MrMetallidude estonia is high up on the atheism list as well....soooooo great.... :)

  • I imagined the church burning down, and evil angels swooping from the rafters. I would also study all the people around me.

  • The Gameboy Color and Pokemon Red Version really helped to past time during the really boring services when I was younger, but as I grew older, I became more spiritual, and started to like the services =]...

  • Boy, am I the lucky one here... I live in a country (Sweden) which has the highest percentage in atheism - IN THE WORLD - so that would PROBABLY make me an atheist (which I am, by the way; a very strong and proud one). I haven't had that much personal experience with religion in general. So I consider myself incredibly lucky (since I'm an atheist and all). Both of my parents and grandparents on both sides are NOT religious either. So, I'm one lucky motherf*cker.

  • I am totally with you on the worship part though. Singing was fun... :D
