Games of the Past looking back at an old game of the past that everyone should recognize to some degree.
Arkanoid was first put out in arcades and later for the original nintendo. It even came with a special controller
called the Vaus, which you can see here. Arkanoid was the beginning of the "brick breaker" games. The concept is
simple. Use your padle to bounce the ball and prevent it from leaving the playing field. Your goal is to break all
the bricks on the screen. Basic bricks take one hit to break, while others take two or more. Gold bricks will never
break and are not required to clear the stage. What makes the game difficult at times is the fact that every time
the ball hits something, its speed increases slightly, which as you can see can get pretty intense. There are also
power-ups which drop from time to time, with different effects such as slowing the ball or equipping your paddle
with lasers. Despite being so simple, this game has amazing replay value. I break it out every now and then and play
for a good hour or so. And even though there are countless "brick breaker" games out there these days, sometimes you
just can't beat the good old originals.

If you don't have arkanoid in your nintendo collection, i highly recommend you pick it up.
