A 10 minute history of the Atari 2600 Video Computer System (VCS), retro video games console.

The episode of The Gadget Show with my 2600 in it is streaming at
http://fwd.five.tv/gadget-show/videos/full-episodes/tgs-series-12-episode-1
The relevant bit starts around 17:30ish, after a load of ads.
Those are my games they're playing too, just as an after thought.

  • I have a question. Did you heard for Atari 2600 clones? I found one at flea market last Sunday and is called RC-CELEIA Has a 2600Jr shape BTW.

  • @prulcan I've never heard of that. I took a look at the video of it on your channel. Fascinating :)

  • I know this an old video but does anybody here know how much an Atari CX-2600 UK with the box (Tatty box) is worth? It has Paddles and two joysticks with three tatty boxed games Space Invaders, VIDEO OLYMPICS, and of course Combat. I'm just curious on the value. Also I heard you on All Gen Gamers recently, looked up value for CX-2600 and found your video, love your channel.

  • @DemonOfGaming It depends on the model, as some are worth more than others. For a 4 or 6 switch woody (not heavy sixer) you could expect between £10 - £50. A Vader could go for up to £40, while "junior" models sell for around £10. Having the box may help the price a little.

Heavy Sixers have been seen to sell in the uk for up to £100 unboxed.

  • I was very distracted by the other retro PCs in the background. Recognize a Commodore Pet and what looks like a Mac 128 or 512 (but I suppose it could be a Classic) in the background. What are the black Commodores? They're not the Plus 4. On careful consideration, that C=64 could be a Vic-20. :)

  • @PistSextols Check the featured video on the front page of my channel and all will be revealed :)

  • Very imformative as always Steve. My Vader I thinks looks a little different because I don't remember seeing the wording up front like yours is. It's packed away so I'm not 100% sure on that. 5/5

  • I understand the NEO GEO also had a simillarly long lifespan as the VCS. I also understand that the VCS Jr was made in Taiwan, a neighbour once had one. Do you know if that last Irish made model sold outside of Ireland?

  • I'm afraid I have to disagree, I think the wood grain model looks far classier than the vader model.

  • RC-CELEIA has 160 games build in and is lighter than original 2600 Jr because there is no metal shielding inside. Also RC-CELEIA has a different signal for picture than original 2600 Jr. but RC-CELEIA has a problem with RF modulator this is the reason for snowy picture.

  • @SteveBenway Thank's for your quick reply. I got it for £20 at a carboot sale, so I'm pretty sure it was cheap :).

  • Very helpful as I am starting out on collecting and it is refreshing to have someone educating in a market where people are preying on collector's wallets. Thank you!

  • That Heavy Sixer is a beauty. I quite like the Vader too.

  • Thanks for the histories!
