An attempt at filming Wild Boar in the countryside of Kent and East Sussex. All zoologists want to be the next David Attenborough, we're no different.

  • atm boar population in britain is largely unknown, we have a rough idea of numbers from escapees but other than that we just dont know, there are hotspots and places where there are no boar whatsoever. but as i say there isnt a close season and i have heard tales of people shooting boar and then having to finish off piglets that hadnt been seen etc.

I agree with your strategy on letting the wild boar population grow a bit. Here in the USA, our boars have been introduced by European settlers back in the 1800s. Our wild game officials regard wild boar as vermin because of the crop/forest damage they cause. I, on the other hand would love to keep wild boar on the list of wild game species. Recently, our populations of wild boar have begun to explode. Once they establish a certain number, its almost impossible to erase them.

  • there isnt a close season is what the real issue is. not that they arent protected, looking at other countries that have boar, france new zealand australia, they can be a real pest. and need controlling, but there should be a limit, i.e. a close season to allow the population to recoop i dont want to see them dissapear, since they are a great source of wild food. but they need a close season or we will have orphaned piglets starving when mothers are shot during the breeding season.
