  • Bravo, Susie

  • Finally, Al Jazeera is a great resource for news, but upon watching that, my understanding is that no one knows where this is going. It's a checkmate. You can't just stop the oil in the Suez, and you can't murder thousands of protestors.

There has to be very fancy footwork to transfer power without Israel feeling threatened, without Saudis freaking out over oil profits, and without the US and European economy, already a mess, going into total decline.

  • Having said that, there is hope that rational minds will prevail, but this is a volatile situation that could quickly devolve into a horrible war. All of the OTHER dictatorships and oil concerns are fiercely on the side of Mubarek, including Israel.

The oil stops, and the economy of the world will rock like it has never before.

If the Islamic Brotherhood take control, you will not enjoy their politics. But, I too am on the edge of my seat. We must stop our depedence on oil.

  • Susie, I'm with you in spirit, but this is about the Suez Canal, and the border with Israel, which is a citadel of US corporate interests, especially oil. Oil travels through the canal and if it stops, you will pay ten dollars or more per gallon for gas.

Yes, I agree that's a good thing and it's about time, but the growing pains on this one are going to be intense for the USA, especially in places like California.

Also, the Islamic Brotherhood waits in the wings.

  • @2:59 I *hope* for "something better", but cannot optimistic as you. I'm old enough to remember the Iranian Revolution quite clearly, and one would have to be utterly naive not to see that the Islamic Republic that was created (especially during its brutal establishing phase during the 1980s) was even worse than the Shah's autocratic dictatorship. I support the democratic revolution that's taking place, but I hope it doesn't lead to "one election, one time" with a theocratic outcome.
