The "Butterflies in Space" experiment by BioServe Space Technologies at the University of Colorado. This experiment was made possible through the support of the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) and the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). Larvae and technical assistance provided by Monarch Watch, Butterfly Pavilion, and Clearwater Butterfly.

All larvae look great today. The last of them has entered their fifth instar and they are all chowing down and fattening up. The third larva is slightly out of view near the top of the habitat. It dislodges some frass (droppings) from the roof and sends it floating across to the other side. The frass comes to rest gently on the floor of the habitat. They all have few more days before pupation begins.
