FOR ALL THE PEOPLE POSTING REPETITIVE COMMENTS: "A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom." (Bob Dylan). I don't agree with censorship and I will always support freedom of speech and expression. Some people have asked me why I don't delete the entire video because it's being "tarnished" by puerile "games", which are an example of freedom of speech used in a questionable way. I don't want to delete this video because it's not at all about "games". It's about suffering and struggling to live with a mental illness. Imagine yourself in these poor men's shoes for one moment, you'll understand what I mean. I am sorry for you, but I will delete from now any repetitive, meaningless, spam-like comments.

"In World War I, shell shock was considered a psychiatric illness resulting from injury to the nerves during combat. The horrors of WWI trench warfare meant that about 10% of the fighting soldiers were killed (compared to 4.5% during World War II) and the total proportion of troops who became casualties (killed or wounded) was 56%. Whether a shell-shock sufferer was considered "wounded" or "sick" depended on the circumstances. The large proportion of WWI veterans in the European population meant that the symptoms were common to the culture, although it may not have become popularly known in the US. Many generals considered those who suffered shell shock to be cowards, and a large number were executed."

  • @ruby It is rare to see these reactions nowadays because there is no such war nowadays. WW1 is unique as the suffering of the soldiers goes. What got to them was first and foremost the prolonged heavy bombardment that they endured for months and even years at end. This does not happen anymore as technology and warfare has evolved. However, you could actually see some signs of these reactions in the Iraqi veterans of the gulf war after they had endured months of frequent airstrikes.

  • I respected all WW1 soldiers. My grand grandfather fight in WW2 in Czarist Russia. Biggest Casualties in this war on Russia side :((. Remember people from West that Russians before Communist Revolution fight too in this war. In youtube I not found any video about Russian soldiers in WW1 or any footage...

"The British shot people like this for Cowardice, including 15 year old boys".

I'm afraid you're right, and it is nothing to be proud of. The Germans treated their shellshocked far better than we did. Worst of all were the Italians, to whom the common soldier was considered almost subhuman; over 7,000 were shot by their own side. The notion that Italian servicemen were cowards is, to my mind, one of the most undeserved labels in history.

    Cont'd

  • The British shot people like this for Cowardice, including 15 year old boys. Rule Brittiania

  • There's another video of this with stupid music, they played it in my class and I laughed at the music and everyone thought I was laughing at the men shaking.. Erm. No. God bless them ♥

  • I CRY AND I DONT CARE WHO PEOPLE THINK ABOUT ME LIKE IF YO ARE AGREE

  • @itsmebrad1 i see what youre saying, today's warfare is nothing like the hell that the trenches of WW1 must have been. but you should always respect the servicemen of your country and its allies. they will be your first line of defense in a crisis.

  • @josemaja Melancholia"

  • What is the music piece? Can someone say please?

  • @itsmebrad1 you don't respect them because the don't come home as wrecked shells of men? i have heard horrible stories and iv seen men destroyed from fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • @itsmebrad1 You shouldn't compare them to their predecessors, they're still defending the country and all your rights with it.
