1. By "the good that christians have done" do you mean the crusades? or perhaps the Inquisition? or perhaps the slaughtering of children at the order of god?
2. Thousands of years ago, if you had tried to convince the people of the world that the Earth is flat, they would have thought you mad. However, religion has come to accept modern science when it is so "in your face" that they can no longer deny it. Science of today will eventually fill in the unknowns, as it always has in the past.

thou shall no murder , love peace ,joy. etc thou aren't exclusively christains values. those vaules exsisted long before chirstainity. But vaule to change over time . for instance slaverly was acceptable in the bible and is no longer acceptin.
-
that is hypocrital of you to say - people desire power and will say anything to follow them
So what you are saying is went people claiming to be chirstinas do evil deads its no as a result of chirstainity but went people claiming to be athesit do the same its all because of atheism

@flylike1 I guess I was constraining myself to one definition of the word. What you said is reasonable and I would have to agree.

"I know you didn't say directly that you assumed there was no God but Athiesim does..I feel Agnosticism to be the more default position"
Agnosticism is the default position, I agree- but being agnostic doesn't exclude you from being atheist. I've found that definitions of "atheist" differ from person to person and is often an unreliable term. I define atheist as "without belief in a deity" while others say "belief that a deity doesn't exist" which are very different.

I know you didn't say directly that you assumed there was no God but Athiesim does. And that's all I was trying to say. Just personally I feel Agnostosism to be the more default position, which makes no assumptions of what can't at least right now be proven. But hey to each their own.
-
"You are making huge assumptions when you say there is no God"
I never said that. I'm glad you agree that agnosticism is the default position. So why would you believe in something if you don't even know if it exists?
-
So you are claiming there is no God while you don't know whether or not there is? I think Agnostism is the default position of human knowledge. You are making huge assumptions when you say there is no God.
If you're trying to make the point that atheism creates some sort of exploitable moral vacuum, consider Sweden. 90% atheist (as atheist as America is religious) yet in every measure of human decency has a society that trumps America: education, health care, charitable donations, crime rate, in short GOOD BEHAVIOUR. Even within the US the "red states" or more religious ones, exhibit statistically worse behavior than the less religious "blue states". Religious belief DOES NOT mean good behavior.

Where do you get this idea of "good"? What determines whats good and bad? humans? if so then it is subjective.if you assume a moral law then you must admit a law giver. something that is superior than us and makes us have an obligation to follow. but if only matter exists, then there is no moral law. so when you say "good" thats just your opinion. you have no grounds to say one set of behaviours is better than the others. But your point is taken about sweden.

to add something to the list of values that are outdated:
rape, human sacrifice, slavery etc etc. and please dont say that that's the old testament ;)
and about hitler. he wanted to get rid of christianity and he went on killing christians?? you should really look up the difference between jews and christians.
one more thing. hitler is an argument mostly used by christians. i think we can all agree that hitler did not do the things he did FOR religion, NOR did he do it for science/atheism

what about it? THE OLD TESTAMENT IS A HISTORICAL DOCUMENT. it does not espouse it. the messiah has already come.

stalin did all those bad things Because of his character. What you believe has a huge impact on your character!because stalin was an atheist he believed that Good and evil were subjective.he thought he was doing the right thing!and atheism availed a potential for that mindset. If he would have committed himself to abide in the teachings of Christ then he would have had a Character of love, mercy, kindness like the Jesus teaches. And would have Not been so evil.

why couldn't it vary? what makes it so that it is predetermined? there would need to be something that predetermined it.that sounds like this universe has a purpose.
if the entropic principle were correct you would still need an explanation.
