  • I understand the campaign, I just thought that as Bill is primarily known for his work with birds and their conservation (and the Goodies, obviously), he wouldn't approve of Woooo Chomley-heptonstall's attitude to hunting a declining species.

Woodcock might have a lovely life, but if there aren't any of them left, then what's the point in being nice to them? Why does H F-W care about animal welfare on one level, but apparently not about sustainability?

  • Hooo Firmly-Willingtotalk is keen on being nice to chicken, but happily goes hunting for woodcock because he wants one at the centre of his bird-in-a-bird. They're a wild species in decline, so I wish Bill had swapped his support for Who Fairly-witless's agreement to only eat stuff from sustainable, not failing, populations.

  • You seem to have misunderstood the purpose of this campaign. The woodcock has lived a perfectly fine life in the free, before he is shot, without any suffering at all.

The intensively farmed chicken does not have the life of the woodcock. They are shut inside for the entirety of their lives, never seeing daylight, barely being able to move at all.

The butcher process is not what is the point of this campaign. The chickens go through a life of suffering, the woodcock does not.

  • he put £30,000 into getting tesco to stop selling intensively farmed chickens. its hardly a con.

  • your car isn't alive.

intensive farming came about after the war, after rationing. people needed lots of food really quick so it was the only way farmers could satisfy consumers. since then people have realised its a quicker, cheaper way and carried on with it- albeit with no regard to the animals welfare.

i keep chickens, and they're sweet, lovely animals- but people like you have no concern about that. of course you should know the history of the chickens you eat- do you not have morals?!

  • you can still farm them compassionately by giving them a decent life. any animal which is killed to be eaten should be given respect- after all they're killed so we can eat!

  • The thing that bugs me about these campaigns for 'compassionate meat' is this: no matter how compassionately the chickens or cows or pigs are cared for they are still slaughtered and kept for personal gain. No amount of "compassion" can negate that. This so-called 'happy meat' is just marketing tool that lets people continue barbaristic practices while "feeling good that the animal led a happy life" murder is murder, no matter how 'content' the victim.
