Children and young people with disabilities represent one of the most vulnerable groups in Montenegro. Approximately 200 Montenegrin children with disabilities are placed in residental institutions across Montenegro. Day Care Centres represent an alternative form of care for children with disabilities as they prevent separation of children from their families. Such a centre was recently opened in the Municipality of Niksic and UNICEF has been supporting capacity building of its staff.
Only a few days after the Day Care Centre for children with disabilities in Niksic started welcoming children, the first monitoring and evaluation workshop was held on 18th june 2010, with the support of UNICEF. The aim of the workshop was to provide hands on support to the staff during their initial work days as well as to initiate a discussion on standards of quality which complies with the European requirements for quality in the provision of social services.
