  • You're supposed to strike away from you, COLLEGE BOY

  • @deed02392 That may well be the case with younger people who stand some semblance of a chance of setting themselves alight due to poor motor skills resulting in the match reaching their clothing, however, adults are somewhat more capable of judging the distance between themselves and an object they are holding on account of the more finely attuned proprioception skills they possess. Such juvenile mantras about ways of striking matches become displaced by experience.

  • @deed02392 Secondly, there is no single correct way of lighting a match that is necessarily safe. There are times when lighting a match the way I do is actually of some benefit over the way you suggest. Experience and common sense are much more important than supposed rules. Finally, I am not going to implore young people to not try this at home as firstly, this is a Bunsen being lit and should be reserved for the lab/school; secondly there is no encouragement in this video to do so.

  • @deed02392 I believe you must be joking by this point so well done at an attempt to bring some humour to an innocuous video. But I shall nonetheless respond to the points you raise just in case you are being serious. Firstly, from my writing you should be able to detect that I don't actually believe anyone will come to any harm from striking the match the way I do. "Some semblance of a chance" alludes to the chance being very low. Indeed, such a person at risk shouldn't use matches at all.

  • That's exactly the kind of complacency that could influence the very younger people you agree are at risk of possibly one of the most horrific manners possible. Perhaps you should mention in the video description that you do not advise others 'attempt this at home'. Then perhaps in future you could make the very simple change necessary to reduce the potential for harm to yourself or more importantly the risk of making it a dangerous habit of someone watching this video.
