  • Brian Eno named this as an inspirational track from his childhood...

  • Mimed and parodied to perfection in John Waters' original "Hairspray"...definitely an original sound for its time...and perhaps way beyond...thanks as always

  • I have DVD Hairspray, in there is The Lafayettes singing and playing this song

And I surprised in hearing original here on YOUTUBE, great rocking uptempo !

  • I was after this song for ages didnt know how the hell to spell the band's name I kept trying lafiettes or lafiets, laffiets etc.. got nowhere, forgot about it then found it on youtube... glory

  • Hairspray ;)

  • @doowopper1951 The Lafayette s were from the Towson area of Baltimore County, MD most of us went to Towson High School which is where we met each other. "The story of us being from Bethesda is an error which was published on a album jacket from a Time Life record containing "Life's Too Short". Frank Bonarrigo (lead singer).

  • @BOOGIEBOPP1 The Layfayettes were from Bethesda, MD, so I bet they got a lot of play at many Maryland stations, but Baltimore was definitely one of the most important cities to be popular in.

  • Baltimore in the 1960s was a great MUsic Town with terrific A M stations on the dial: WCAO and WITH for all rock. Great Jocks too. This tune was a MONSTER Baltimore tune. I wore out the grooves on the 45 I bought. Great tune...great memory !! Bernie Lane

  • @LTDdr0pde4d After the Lafayettes there was Frank and The Fugitives, and didn't they turn into The Fugitive Six or whatever? Frank was damn good. Baltimore had some great bands back in the day!

  • Sorry if someone already said this, but Robert Plant also called this his favorite song as a kid.

My brother was Ben's boss for awhile, took me to see the Lafayettes and all I wanted to be from that night was a drummer. I loved those grey pearl drums with the twin toms. I think it might have been Catonsville High school.

  • thank you so much aaaej1!!

this has been a great help, my dad now has this album and can listen to

    this awesome tune :D

    Cheers! x
