The Guide IS useful...

When you talk to him click crafting

Then Put an item in the slot it tells you EVERYTHING you can and will be able to make in Terraria.

Obsidian is used with Hellstone to make Hellstone bars - For Hellstone armor and weapons. As well, you can plant the seeds you have been collecting in clay pots - Create your own herb garden for fun and profit!

Here's a huge disappointment for ScreenRave I'm sure he's already found out - The rocket boots run on mana. He's going to be so pissed at that...
