On Oct 27 2009 residents of Smith Mountain Road in Cumberland County, TN and United Mountain Defense volunteer staff person, Matt Landon went on a minesite visit with the Office of Surface Mining to gather information for a public hearing that will be held on the proposed modification of post mining land use of woodland to industrial coal fly ash landfill. The coal mined from this site is one of the most toxic coal seams in the country and possibly the world. There are many existing problems with this site and placing a 100 foot tall pile of coal fly ash on top of an unstable valley fill will only make these problems worse. Please attend the public hearing Nov 5, 2009 at 6PM at the Stone Memorial Highschool in Crossville, TN. Check out www.unitedmountaindefense.org We have internships!
