The Mellon Arena was built in 1961 as engineering marvel. It is the largest steel opening dome in the world. It takes approximately 2-3 minutes to open the dome. Originally built for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the building was later renovated to fit the new NHL expansion Pittsburgh Penguins. The Mellon Arena served its purpose and has with stood being the oldest operating hockey arena in the world. Now it is time to say good-bye to the Igloo and cherish the wonderful memories made over the past 49 years. Forever will we remember the Mellon Arena.

The fans never showed up unless the team wins a championship.
Steelers aside, you don't support your sports teams, which is why the Pens changed their colors to at least get SOME recognition because no one gave a shit about the Pens they were pathetic from day 1.

@bufmemaud I know, I heard it will be torn down in February, I really hate to see places be demolished where I had good memories at. I dont know whose shitty idea it was to tear this place down, but it was the wrong decision

@TheSteelLegendary I was crying myself while putting this video together. I have been to Mellon Arena only once back in 2008. I never got to go back & see another pens game there. We'll miss her dearly.

i'm really attatched to this place. i've had so many amazing memories there, i know i'm going to cry when they tear it down :'(
