Well, "planned obsolescence" has been part of consumer culture since at least the 1940s -- it's not really new. I think probably a huge proportion of production sustaining the US economy is advertising and branding to keep people buying even when they don't need to. Have you seen "Affluenza"?

Interesting stuff. So tell me -- you made this for class, but did you agree with what you were saying? Was it something you knew about and cared about before the class? How did you feel about the assignment? (I wonder because we're often dealing with the same kind of take on advertising but we don't know if we're telling people stuff they already know.)

Have you notice how annoying advertising is getting as of late? They come off as very needy, and rightfully so. People are seeing through the needless crap, without much innovation. I mean, they keep coming up with new technology for TVs but they tend drag upgrades for as long as they can milk the $ off of it. No new inventions other than the hydron colider(spell?)
It seems we are born to buy things...
