In mid February of 2007, the McGuinty government announced that it was considering a host of power conservation measures, including a ban on the incandescent lightbulb. Both the governing Liberals and the opposition Progressive Conservatives referred to this proposal as one aimed at fighting global warming by limiting CO2 emissions. Opposition leader John Tory actually suggested that the ban should be imposed immediately, to fight global warming, and that McGuinty's slowness to ban the incandescent bulb was unacceptable.

In this episode of FPTV, Freedom Party of Ontario leader Paul McKeever exposes the actual reason for the incandescent lightbulb ban in Ontario. Hint: it isn't a fight against global warming.

  • 356pla: You're quite right. This video was produced in early 2007. Power demand has dropped considerably since then. Banning the incandescent makes even less sense now than it did in 2007. Only Freedom Party opposed the ban in 2007, and Freedom Party continues to oppose it to this very day.

  • McKeever talks about the power shortage then. So much business has now either failed or left, we've been having to pay to dump load into the states when the wind blows every where after the nukes have ramped up.

But we're still paying the premiums. Plus the inflated cost of these bulbs.

McQuinty still hasn't got much off the drawing board yet, but lots of long term commitments with our money.

  • @leifa1 even if ALL incandescents are banned, most ppl are still gona use them cuz they prefer the light quality. so even if they're banned, most ppl are stocking up on them anyway. So the ban aint going to do any good. U are aware that incandescents will still be available after the ban period. not all incandescents will be banned. ever heard of Halogen bulbs? those are incandescents with more energy efficiency. they're already hitting the market. hopefully they'l put the cfls outa business.

  • @leifa1 reducing consumption is a good thing, especially to save money in ur pocket. u also need to understand that ppl waste energy from 1.) leaving their lights on when not needed 2) other appliances in ur house also use a lot of energy. So u cant just blame the light bulb. i dont know about u but im proud of my home and i refuse to use gloomy pissed colored cfls just for a MYTH that it will prevent climate change. anyone who believes that myth is a religious nut job

  • @relyingonhim u wont have to only buy cfls. Incandescents will not go away 100% Halogen light bulbs are appearing in the market. they're energy efficient incandescents that will meet the energy efficient standards. Yes there will be a ban but with execeptions. Anything below 40 watts, above 100 watts, Flood light versions, appliance lighting and rough surface lighting are not included in the ban. And as i mentioned, Halogens. With these Halogen bulbs being made, cfls will be kicked 2 the curb

  • Also...

This whole global change stuff is a crock, anyway. The earth's weather patterns have been changing for thousands of years & has nothing to do with our cars, lights, etc. etc. it has to do with our aging planet & there's nothing any government can do about it except try to build another planet somewhere that's habitable & good luck with that one!

  • Funny, or not... Never thought about that. I have a few of those flourescent bulbs that look like regular light bulbs in my dining area. There's 5 bulbs in my light fixture & regular bulbs would make sitting at the table too warm during the summer months. I like these bulbs in this location, but if I want a quick light, I have to flip on the kitchen light because the one over the table... ain't happening!

I absolutely hate the goofy CFL design they keep trying to push on us.

  • No, that just makes too much sense & the govenments don't understand such things...

  • The only thing some environmental groups are concerned about is pushing their agendas & our current government is more than happy to swoop in & save the day... by increasing their hold on us!

  • Hey "mama146", have you or anyone else heard from the Environmentalists/Conservationists upon the aspect of how these Windmills might disrupt Bird Migration patterns? I myself have barely heard a peep of such a concern, yet it does seem common sense that such "Green Energy" might in fact be more harmful to the Wildlife as opposed to our current forms of energy.
