First time trying this effect. Pretty good considering mine and YouTube's weaknesses for Synchronising.
Effect: Cloning / Split Screening.
Strength: It actually worked (despite a few flaws).
Weaknesses: Light issues. Faint line down centre of the screen. Synchronising issues.

I used Sony Vegas Platinum 7 (or Platinum Sony Vegas 7... or 7 Vegas Sony Platinum... something along those lines).
As for free software, not sure. Sony Vegas isn't a free software though, costs about £30.
