http://live.pirillo.com - A community member wrote in to ask how to completely zero out data on his Mac before upgrading to Leopard. Fortunately, this feature is built right into OS X. There's no need to install anything to completely get rid of files and folders.

  • Did you filmed yourself with your pen? :))

  • Zeroing out the data on my external USB HDD took 19 hours to complete. WTF, can you imagine doing the 35 pass method? That takes 35 times longer!!! It will definitely destroy the data on the drive along with the drive. I think the 35 pass method is probably only practical for server grade hard drives that won't burn out through many hours of non stop use.

  • @BroArci Just google "File Shredder" and click the first result. :P

  • man is he annoying..poor explanations too

  • @Seanuk Well after reading online I've seen that the FBI apparently uses a 54 pass method... This file shredding program I have can do one pass, two pass, DoD 5220-22.M, secure 7 pass, and the Gutmann. Good way to hide things no one should see, eh?

  • @DeltaPhi79 Unfortunantly Phil Im not sure, I live in the UK. I think that an organisation such as the FBI can trace pretty much anything given today's information networks. Thanks for the reply :)

  • @Seanuk (I know this is a 2 year old comment but...) But the FBI uses the 35 pass, don't they?

  • When using "Piriform CCleaner" option, to use Gutmann (35 passes) and use its other option "Wipe Free Space" would that remove all files that you have tried to delete before? [the recovery files]

  • yet again, another useless video...

  • Wow, I'm a geek and I think you're a geek.
