It's no secret that the culture war is alive and well here in the US. While the religious right will point to the bible and their ideology for social issues like abortion and gay marriage, there's something that doesn't square up in the pairing of those views with fiscal conservatism. Just last week we saw this play out in the debate between Paul Ryan and the Catholic Bishops over his budget. But if one is to really be a "good Christian", are views like Ryan's when it comes to social spending, hypocritical? Talk radio host David Sirota discusses.

It's funny the "Christian right" in the USA are anti-abortion but if you ask them if they would adopt the child or should be taxed to help raise the child they say no. "It's not my responsibility". Yeah it's not your responsibility so shut up.
The parallel between the Evangelicals and the Libertarians is that the Evangelicals use twisted interpretations of the Bible to further their own agenda while the Libertarians use perverted interpretations of the Constitution (i.e. Au&Ag legal tender).

The combining of corporate conservatism with religious conservatism is one of the greatest achievements of the Republican Party. Break this hypocritical bond, and America will became a better a country.

Jesus, someone who reportedly owned nothing, helped the sick, pointed toward putting concern for your soul over everything else, and gave and gave everything He could give, would cut so much that no government would be left and no RT either, I suppose.

Why would anyone have to provide an adult with a check?
That's insane.
At 18 I was living in a car and on couches, working landscaping and construction jobs. I was in and out of school for 13 years, graduating with a Doctorate.
A fucking check???
Get off your ass.... lazy fukker.

These kids were provided with a private education, clothes, vacations to Disney, an olympic swimming pool, gymnasium, lake, mountain trails, etc.
The equivalent would cost approx. 25k per year.
After graduation they can continue to live at the ranch while going to a Community College and live in an apartment.
There are many cases where foster children are abused, pimped out to pedophiles in government/community elite - but this wasn't one of those. State run programs are the worst offenders.

I agree with you.
I have friends who dedicated two years of their lives as foster parents on a Christian Ranch. They had 7 foster children (female), two of their own (female).
These girls were cast offs, abuse victims, and two with learning disabilities.
Those kids were provided with a stable and structured learning environment - better than most households.
My friends eventually left because of the Ranch's turn in policy concerning SSRI, drugging the difficult kids into a stupor.

I'm talking about what the Bible *actually* says, not these charlatans. Churches might use coercion, but the Bible doesn't authorize it. If they do, I would go as far as to say they are an apostate church. As for doctrines on hell, that's part of being a Christian. No one is forcing you to believe it, i.e. no one is coercing you.

My point is why does the gov't think it should act as the middle man? The church has biblical authority to do so from an example in Acts 2:44-45. Christians are to give freely and cheerfully to the church, 2 Corinthians 9:7. In other words, it's a donation, not through coercion. And for those who are not religious, sure, you have other means to donate either through charities or giving to a bum on the street. But the gov't can't be trusted and screws things up anyway, especially with our tax $.
