To hear a fantastic live version check out the Live at the Apollo Theater concert. It's so tight and they vocals are mixed fantastic. Can't say enough about it.

2 things:
1) They pitched the song up in this duet, only the key they transposed to lead to some "uncomfortable" chords, that's why this whole thing sounds so unsettled.
2) It's pretty clear they're having monitor or sound bounce issues. That's 100% on the sound engineer. Ever listened to someone singing with headphones on? It's pretty bad right? That's in effect what happens when your sound engineer fails and you have a bad monitor mix. Even the most accomplished singers will sound like crap.
