THE GREAT RICK IN THE SKY - MEDLEY OF 7 PIECES - A PIANO TRIBUTE TO RICHARD WRIGHT OF PINK FLOYD
Assembled, transcribed/adapted for solo piano, live performed, introduced, directed and post-produced by Giorgio Rizzarelli - http://youtube.com/urbania70 . Realized between September 15 and October 23, 2008.
The Pink Floyd keyboardist and founder member Richard Wright passed away on September 15th, 2008. The other members describe him as the most reserved and modest. Actually, though his jazz abilities, he invented an essential style. Besides playing keyboards, Wright gave important contributions as a writer (and sometimes as a vocalist), some of which are remembered in this piano cover medley.
Richard Wright died at 65 and, as he had kept privacy about his illness, these news came suddenly. It's sad to know that, if another reunion will be done (after the one at Live8), he will not join it. As many keyboardists, I learned from his style.
TRACKLIST
The Great Gig In The Sky (Wr, Torry)

Echoes (M, G, Wa, Wr)
Time (G, Wa, Wr, M)
Us And Them (Wa, Wr)
Cluster One (G, Wr) (b)
Wearing The Inside Out (Wr, Moore)
G=Gilmour, M=Mason, Wa=Waters, Wr=Wright
Wright performs lead vocals on Meddle (with Gilmour), Wearing The Inside Out, the Time bridge.
All excerpts are from "The Dark Side Of The Moon" except the last two which are from "The Division Bell", and "Echoes" which is from "Meddle".
By choice I performed "The Great Gig In The Sky" faithfully to the album, though Wright did it live more freely. The superimposed text is spoken in the original version; by the way one of the song working titles was "The Mortality Sequence".
"Wearing The Inside Out" features a free interpretation as part of my personal tribute.
"Shine on You Crazy Diamond" (also co-written by Wright) is quoted briefly (at the end) to avoid too much slow music, stay in the 10mins available, and... well, that's rather for Syd.

Awesome. I wish I could play a piano like that....

That was amazing. Rick Wright will never be dead, as every time we play his beautiful compositions, he will live in the hearts of every fan of classic and progressive rock. I especially liked it when you played Echoes and Cluster One

@TylerDz1701 Thank you very much again. Indeed. I'm glad you liked my Cluster One version, it's a very particular and essential piece. About Echoes, probably I played it too fast.
