Diego Rivera was born to wealthy parents in 1886 in Guanajuato. As a youth he studied art in Spain and France, became a Communist, and befriended Amadeo Modigliani (who did one of the portraits of Rivera in this video) and Chaim Soutine. He went on to become one of Mexico's most treasured artists. His success led to murals in Mexico, murals in Moscow (until he was kicked out for anti-Soviet activities -- he was later expelled from the Mexican Communist Party), and murals in the US until controversy drove him back home. A womanizer, he was married five times, twice to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, and had at least one illegitimate child by another woman. He died in Mexico City in 1957 of heart failure. Music is a traditional "Malagueña," on guitar.
