You should teach her to lean into the gun a little. Good thing she didn't fall on her butt!

@dubya450 I'm working on that. She seems to be more comfortable leaning back a bit, and since she knows about the recoil in advance she's prepared for it and it doesn't knock her over. I've got a custom 35 Whelen being built now, once I have sighted it in if I feel she can handle it I'll let her give that one a go.

Did she know about the heavy recoil before she shot, or did you pull a dirty trick on the wife?

@everettwilliams31
I don't laugh at people when they hurt themselves because some idiot thinks it's a good idea to give them a gun they're not ready for. She knew is had some stout recoil, but she's fired big guns before. I want her to be able to handle them since she's often with me on hunting/camping trips in brown bear country. I leave the 12 gauge loaded with Brenneke slugs with her when my son and I are out scouting for game.

I just bought a 15" barrel for a t/c encore handgun in .450 Marlin and a box of the same ammo you're shooting. I've shot a t/c contender with a 14" .45-70 barrel and the recoil was a little stiff I fbut not too bad. I figured the .450 wouldn't be that much worse. I haven't shot it yet but after what your saying about the recoil level it should be a handful of fun.

@theisenbergc The .450 Marlin cartridge runs at much higher pressure than typical factory loads in 45-70. There are 45-70 loads that run as hot as the .450 Marlin, but those come with bold warnings about which firearms they are to be used in. If you were shooting traditional 45-70 loads in your TC, you will find the .450 Marlin to be much heavier in recoil.
