Howard Dicus KGMB, KHNL News Now talks to Hawaii Health Care Advocate Rafael Del Castillo about current issues - Hawaii Coalition of Health Lawsuit against Hawaii State.
Rafael Del Castillo also running for Neil Abercrombie's congressional seat against Republican Charles Djou and Democrats Ed Case and Colleen Hanabusa, Charles Amsterdam and Philmund Lee.
Del Castillo received his Juris Doctor from the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii, May 1997. Del Castillo began his law career at Bays, Deaver, Hiatt, Lung & Rose in October 1997. He assisted the Hawaii Coalition for Health to negotiate consumer-negative terms out of health insurance provider agreements[3]. In May 2001, Del Castillo left Bays, Deaver to carry on the defense of an anti-trust suit.
In 2002, Del Castillo formed a law firm with Arleen Jouxson-Meyers, M.D. to fight for health care reform in Hawaiʻi. Del Castillos partnership with Dr. Jouxson-Meyers began with a case against Kaiser Permanente on behalf of a severely brain damaged infant under the Hawaiʻi Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities[4]. Meyers spearheaded the enactment of the bill of rights in 1997 to provide patients an independent expert forum in which to challenge wrongful denials of benefits by health insurance companies.
We need someone like Del in Congress. If anyone can help the legislatures in Washington understand the Health Care Reform they just enacted, it's Del.
