This is a D minor blues written by bassist Leroy Vinnegar, it was composed for a play written by Max, "The Subway Grate" (also the original title for this blues). The Play was put on at the Coffee Gallery in San Francisco, CA in the 1960s. Also, on the album "Leroy Walks Again" in which "Subway Grate" appears they solo on a D7 blues after the minor blues head in unlike this take. Max Hartstein (b), Joe Lisinicchia (g)

  • I was privileged to sing with Lee and become his friend a long time ago. He taught me a lot - including that he accepted (when I was basically a jazz child) that I'd say - I'll be there on the One. I always was and so was he. Thanks for putting this up.
