Is Your Cat a "Cabbit?"
Well if you believe in urban legends like Big Foot and flying saucers then perhaps it is. But if truth be told a Cabbit is an age old myth that begins with our "top-cat" ...the Manx!
The legend began about 200 years ago on an island in the Irish Sea called "The Isle of Man!" The Manx cat is believed to have evolved there from a mutation of the domestic cats found on the island. This mutation created a cat with little or no tail, and with a shortened spinal cord. By the way, if you are in the market for a Manx, make sure that you find a reputable breeder. This will lessen the chances that your cat will have undeveloped nerves at the end of his back.
Manx's are known for their personality and their ability to get along with other animals. They are sometimes called the "clowns of the cat family" or "the feline sports car" of the cat world because of their fast acceleration.
Having no tail and longer hind legs makes the Manx look like a rabbit, especially when running. Is it all starting to make sense now? Can you see how hundreds of years ago people might have thought how our friend the Manx could be a combination of a rabbit and cat...a Cabbit?
Many people are still convinced that such a critter exists. There have been many sightings over the years...of course they have all occurred at a place called Area 57! What do you think?
WANT ANOTHER LEGEND ?
The story goes that the Manx cat was created thousands of years ago because when "Noah" closed the door of the Arc, he closed it on the cat's tail!
1:48 'The Manx is also a keen hunter.'
No way! Cat? Hunter? What a ludicrous claim!

@bubsadoozy I agree. My manx is the sunshine of my life. He makes me laugh and he is the most affectionate cat I have ever seen. He actually gives kisses like a dog.
The lady wasn't lying they are extremely friendly with other animals. He plays with my parents' 2 50+ pound dogs whenever I go home.

I have a tortie manx we adopted from RBARI, and we had a "stumpy" manx before, also tortoiseshell, that was adopted from Brooklyn. I'm a dog person, but since letting these animals share my house, I have to say I couldn't imagine ever being without a cat around. Simply the best personalities. Smart enough to do tricks and fetch. Loving and sweet.

I don't think I can actually convey how much I recommend owning a manx. Ours was a stray and came to us during the winter. We've had him for 13 years now and I don't know a cat that is more affectionate. He's a snuggler and sleeps like a human, on his back head on a pillow, right next to your when you sleep.

I have a Tuxedo Manx Cat, with a teeny little stub. She's such a great cat, I recommended Manx's to anyone who is looking for a cat that is loving, but fun!
