This is a 1961 Warner Bros Short, directed by Robert McKimson, for the Looney Tunes series. It features Daffy Duck and Porky pig.

I have pieced this cartoon together from 3 different sources, 1. being the HQ video without watermarks, and 2. & 3. being the audio of the original English version plus the audio of the censored sequence. Unfortunately these clips were all at different running speeds and I had to spend quite a while adjusting the audio so that everything matched. Even still, you may notice moments where the audio is very slightly out of sync, these are minimal and hopefully won't detract from the viewing experience. I also changed the aspect ratio of the video so it could be watched in full screen mode (it was letter-boxed).

The sequence usually cut from this cartoon is present (involving Daffy shooting himself in the head with a revolver and walking off in a cloud of smoke).

I believe these classic cartoons, as theatrical shorts, and then as decades of children's TV, have earned their place in the public consciousness and needn't be "earning" any more (money that is). Please enjoy!

  • I understand now. Sonny Bono wrote the copyright law, which put a longer restriction on the copyright laws (not to be redundant, or anything), thus making it a longer wait for cartoons and such to become public domain. FZ would be proud of you government knowledge.

  • @dharmaseed Yeah, basically. I guess it can be summed up fairly simply, but I think it's worth taking a closer look. I'm a musician, and it was investigations regarding what could and couldn't be covered that led to my understanding of the Bono case. It's a real shame and as I see it, purely an extension of greed in a modern form.

Back in early folk and blues (and by "early" I'm talking early last century), people freely stole ideas from each other; it was all part of it.

  • Interestingly many of WB's ideas came from elsewhere (they just did it better). The whole concept of Definitive intellectual copyright is a modern, and INSANE concept. Foghorn Leghorn's character for e.g, is almost wholly taken from a combination of two different radio personalities. Search for Foghorn cartoon research and the first link should be a history of the character. It was once NORMAL to borrow ideas. I wonder what the detrimental effects of legally castrating this process will be...

  • But not just in music, Foghorn Leghorn's character for e.g, was openly a combination of two different radio personalities. Google Foghorn cartoon research and the 1st link should give an account of the story. It once was normal to borrow ideas. I wonder what the ramifications of legally castrating this process will be...

  • @thingfishs I'm a musician as well, and yes, people should be entitiled to works they have composed, but to have to put up with all the chaff out there nowadays and not be able to show true, quality material because of some silly copyright law is just ridiculous. Try telling Gail Zappa that, though.

  • @dharmaseed Yeah, Gail is a very well intentioned and smart lady - but she has to realise that trying to protect Zappa's compositions to the extent that she does is fundamentally counter productive to the spreading of his ideas, not to mention a bit weird...

  • hey thanks uploader for your work -best cartoons of all time...

  • As to all this talk of borrowing ideas...Warner Bros. would judiciously borrow from this short--self-plagiarism, as it were--for the last TAZ-MANIA short ,"Francis Takes A Stand".

1:06-1:07--You thought he was going to say something else, admit it...you nasty quacks. ;)

  • @dharmaseed Hard to explain in a few lines - just google "sonny bono" copyright and click on the first link (copyright term extension act)
