Young, unvaccinated puppies can easily become infected by parvovirus. This virus is passed through infected diarrhea in doggie areas like parks, schools, and dog friendly streets, paths, and trails. The virus can live for 6 months to two years outside a puppy while it waits for the next victim.
Infected puppies are sick, don't want to eat, vomit, and have bloody runny diarrhea
2-3 vaccines at monthly intervals with the last given after 16 weeks will usually prevent the disease.

  • Pepcid 1/2 pill daily. Water/ chicken baby food 6 times daily. What type or weight and how old is the pup?

  • Omg, when I saw the poor Rottie my heart broke. =( I love Rotties, glad to hear he made it through. We had two sibling puppies get parvo at the same time, Sister didn't make it, but her brother, Moose did, just barely. Parvo is a scary thing, I feel for the Rottie's owner, and at least they didn't have to lose their baby!

  • @xWolfHauntx I feel so bad for sick pups, but fortunately the disease is preventable with vaccines

  • @DrGregDVM The weird thing is, we had just gotten our pups vaccinated like, 1 week prior to them catching it! In fact, we think they somehow caught it at the vet office, because one of the other pups from the same litter that had gotten a home but visited us would come and play with them regularly, and he never got it. =/

  • @xWolfHauntx If a pup is incubating a virus and receives a vaccine they will still get the virus. We do our best to make sure pups aren't infected at the office, but doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Sorry that happened to you and your pups

  • I am a vet. technichan at humane soceity in Puerto rico, one of the chihuahuas that was at home she died by parvovirus she's was 1 year old with 4months.She was vaccinated, I think I may have been the one that could had infected her :( because in are shelter we do have a alot cases with parvovirus on puppies.

  • @javy2489 so sorry you lost a dog to parvo. There has been some reports there is a new strain that has been causing problems in vaccinated dogs.
