This fixed my "TNC ERROR" message displayed on my TM-D710 display anytime I turned on the TNC. I tried firmware rewrites and master reset SEVERAL TIMES. I was ready to send the radio in to Kenwood and tried this.
This fixed my issue and saved me the trouble of sending the radio in for repair. Makes me wonder how many people have sent their 710 in for repair and all Kenwood did was a battery pull on the head unit.
DO NOT REMOVE THE FRONT KNOBS..... I do not know why I did it in the video but you DO NOT NEED TO DO ANYONE OTHER THAN REMOVE THE BACK COVER.

  • UPDATE OCTOBER 26, 2011, 1 year later......... the tnc error appeared again today so I removed the back cover and then took out the lithium battery for a few minutes and all is fixed. PLEASE NOTE BELOW THAT:

You DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE FRONT KNOBS .......just the two screws on the back and the back half comes off. The lithium battery is accessible IMMEDIATELY after removing the back cover.

  • I used this fix and it did reset the TNC. Worth a try before progressing to something more expensive. Thanks for posting the video! 73 de Jason W. Watts, WB0CID

  • I've taken the battery twice out of it, hoping it will fix the problem, but NO.. I still have frequent resets, tnc errors and weird symbols in aprs related menus. I wish you good luck but don't count on it
