Yeah, actually our anthem has been changed 4 times on the same music (although during Yeltsin times there was another one without words). Such good (really) words as Stalin, Lenin, Soviet, have been removed one by one, but through the music they stay forever in our history, so some of these guys in our team sing Soviet words actually :)

The Soviet and Russian anthems are almost the same, it was a little hint by those who changed just a few words in the new anthem, so that it feels completely the same and unites our history.

That's fascinating, I had NO idea. Everyone who I know has no clue what the words are or mean (except for my student Anton) and just say "Oh yeah, that's the Russian anthem. Cool." Very few people speak or understand Russian here. When I was in university my friend took Russian just because she liked it, but that's the only one I know.
