  • Braslau's singing evokes a feeling of heroic majesty as she unearths the profound secrets of Schubert's poetic musical language! Her voice is like molten lava shooting sparks of in- terpretive insight in its sonorous, languid path! Schubert's brook-like figure is eloquent in the piano in this magnificent recording! Braslau's intense photo haunts from the past as if she had more to say than her short life permitted! Thank you, Doug!
  • A very special thanks for your eloquent, articulate commentary, so worthy of this beautiful yet under-appreciated artist! THANK YOU!

  • Voix brillante et sombre à la fois. Pleine, profonde, magique, douce, enveloppante...

  • How beautiful she is.

  • @65attila Chiaroscuro...bright darkness ;D

    And I completely agree...what a wonderful tone!

  • Douglasio,

    What a MAGNIFICENT voice...

    just BRILLIANT!

  • Someone I ran across on the Internet is a devoted Galli-Curci fan as well as a member of the KKK. What to make of that? People are complicated.

  • LoL! GREAT! Think I've actually seen this frame, but don't recall where. Was going to joke (lie actually) that Stengel and Moose Skowron were big G-C fans. Thanks, Nate!

  • And there is a photograph of Galli-Curci teaching Jack Dempsey how to sing a high E, and he teaching her how to punch.

  • By the way, my late uncle was friends with Regina Resnik when they were in high school. Resnik always focused on the meaning of the role she was singing and was--and still is, I believe--an opera producer. Sutherland is a friend of hers as well. Onegin is really in a class of her own.

I could work her into a discussion of sports. After all, Illinois coach Bub Zuppke once remarked, after Red Grange, the football player, was criticized for only being able to run, "All Galli-Curci can do is sing."
