At idle, it sounds as sweet as a Singer sewing machine!!

Most like to see the pattern on the valve stem tip after rubbing a Sharpie marker on it and rotating the engine. If the marker ink is worn off exactly in the center of the stem tip, you've got good geometry. After machining, sometimes the valvestem and rocker arm centerline distance changes. This causes rapid valvestem/guide wear. Similar to Skoda valvetrain setup.

Sounds like the tappets are all about 100 thou too loose.. more than just cold, but I think you mentioned that,,, check out my "Having a break while stripping the Vitesse" video, you can hear mine...

it is also a SOHC with 12 valves

what was wrong with it my engine dose the same thing idle slows down and it starts to sound like a diesel engine when I got the car in may with 182000km it dident make the noise but now it has 193000 and it doing the same thing

Yup, you are correct. The rockers were initially set loose in ordered to get the engine running. Everything now tightened up to manufacturer's specs.
