Jacob Soboroff of Why Tuesday? explores Monday's Supreme Court ruling which determined that requiring voters to show ID to cast a ballot is constitutional. He visited with election law expert Rick Hasen and hopped on the bus to time how long it would take to get a photo ID to vote if you don't already have one.

This is an idiot video. It's not hard to get a picture ID. If you are a citizen, you will have a birth certificate or if naturalized you must have some documentation. Yes CA DMV is a pain in ass. but you can make an appointment & you only have to do this once. You need a picture ID to fly or for most financial services. You need ID for just about everything given identity fraud is so rampant. The Democrats are against photo ID because they know the are gonna get 90-something % of illegal votes.

@CentristFiasco any legal state id would be great, but school id does not show if you are a citizen or not so I am against it being accepted
as far as a voter registration card goes last time I got a new card all they did was ask my name and address sent that in my card came in the mail a week later, that has to be stopped, voting is for US citizens only, state photo id for voting is needed nation wide

the DMV is a product of nationalization, don't blame the Republicans on this one.
CentristFiasco 3 months ago
@DaveSquibbSr You have to be over the age of eighteen to vote and to register you must verify that you are a legal citizen which means providing some form of identification which is likely to be your SSN and any legal identification that you obtained. Photo IDS for voting is a good idea.

For graduating high school you automatically get a voter ID card?
that is one of the worst ideas that I have ever heard, there are way to many foreign nationals attending our schools the whole idea of a photo voter ID card is to prevent foreign nationals from voting in our elections

In the most obfuscating tact since his infamous Monicagate red herring ("It depends on what the definition of 'is' is."), President Clinton equates voter ID with the pernicious Jim Crow laws of fifty years ago. It's a photo ID, Mr. President--not a poll tax or a literacy test.
If a legal citizen can make it to a polling place, a legal citizen can obtain a lawful voter ID.

If you cannot get an ID, then you should not be able to vote. Many things can be inconvenient like getting a Driver License. It's not a Big Deal. People go through greater inconveniences for much less. It's a part of life.

@2012ElectionBlog You get 2 weeks of vacation a year from any job. Don't cry because you'd rather use a day of your vacation to go out and see a Guided By Voices cover band than to go register for a voter ID.

If you don't own a car, and can't take a day off of work to waste at a gov't office (seeing as Gov't offices are only open during weekday biz hours) then this requirement is unreasonable. Probably unconstitutional as well
