Super Carriers could withstand missile strikes except nukes. As to what they say, ICBM could take several minutes to reach its target and on that time carriers could launch interceptors that could block the missile, and with sea sparrows fitted into the carriers and the new RIMs carriers can still be a hard target not to mention it never go solo it has its own battle group that it defenses liked together and fires systematically in case of missile attacks .

@golfisgreat123, is phalanx CIWS you're talking about? it only can shoot down some very slow anti ship missile or airplane, Chinese DF-21 is a ballistic missiles, it has the speed of 10 times faster than sound, you american military magazines call it THE GAME CHANGER, it will change the power of the west pacific.
