  • Hi Matt, thanks for another helpful video. Will be buying another speedlight soon (currently have a SB-600) and have been saving for a SB-900. Was hoping the SB-700 would have arrived with a better price tag. Here in the UK there's only around £22 ($35) between them (reputable stores i.e. non Far East imports), so I'm presuming you'd agree that the SB-900 is the better choice for the price difference?.

  • @AtterKing - Ouch!!! I feel for ya buddy! Only $35 difference is highway robbery. Yeah, go for the SB-900, and use your SB-600 for remotes. For that matter, keep buying additional SB-600's for more remotes as they're great little flashes.

  • Hm, you should correct that mistake, the SB-700 is NOT more powerful than the SB-600, quite the contrary it's LESS powerful. At least if we believe Nikon spec(92 guide number as opposed to 98 for the SB-600).

Also, the SB-700 TTL mode doesn't work with older camera.

SB-700 recycle time is a bit faster, but that's mostly due to the fact that it has less power.

  • The SB900 cuts itself off after 20 odd full flash and the SB700 does not! We use Metz so would find the SB900 a joke and not acceptable.

  • sb700 compatible to d90???

  • So instead of buying an SU-4 for my D5000 in order to use it remotely, I could use the SB-700 on my camera and use it to trigger a SB-600? I know that the D5000 doesn't have a flash commander and I doubt that I would be willing to step out of reach of my SB-700 but I am curious as how I could make it work if I needed to.

  • @sictransitmurph

    Yes you can

  • So if i had two of these sb-700's set up off camera to illuminate (for example) both sides of a subjects face, i could trigger both of them with the pop up flash on a d7000?

  • @bullsharkreef - although the specs released by Nikon states that the SB-700 is less powerful than the SB-600, real world tests of the flash have many pros and users state that they get as much power with the 700 as with the 800 when compared side by side.

  • you got some funny faces

  • y do u do that thing with ur eyes?!?!? u look fucking crazy mate
