Well, the Darpa Grand Challenge was much more physically demanding on the vehicles themselves, but as far as the robotics aspect of it, the Urban challenge required much more advanced programming, because they had to deal with traffic, merging, obeying driving laws, etc.

The MIT car does seem to emulate the typical Boston driver....

Come on, the music wasn't THAT bad! ;P
Actually, it was a pretty good choice, just went on a bit long. Next time maybe start with the same, but change it up a bit more?
As for the cars themselves: WOW! And that was 2007, folks. I'm going to see if there's anything from 2009 or 2010.

I loved how the robots were scared to cross the finish line. Congrats BOSS and Junior!

Pretty cool, but, by golly, could you have picked a more annoying music?

Awesome!... Is there a Program similar to the one that was on cable for the Darpa Grand Challenge? What is the next DARPA challenge for autonomous vehicles?

I definitely agree about evolutionary rather than reactionary, revolutionary technology making this finally work. I read about "sentience intelligent cruise control". Operates the pedals while you steer.

Don't listen to the others: I liked this music. It creates a sense of genuine innocent wonder for this kind of new technology and sets the pace of the video well.

Very Cool!
What is the music name?

The song is "Peace Music (St. Etienne Remix)" by Pizzicato Five, off their "Sound of Music" album.

Excellent footage. I was there...husband was one of the course officials. This really shows how "jerky" the movements were for MIT. Really wonderful that 6 of the 11 finished.

Thank you. All six finishers had very unique driving styles, didn't they? I can't wait to see what changes they program into the MIT vehicle for next time.
